ABOUT ME

Born in Trivandrun district of Kerala, which is the southern most state of India. After graduation in one of the colleges affiliated to the University of Kerala, I continued my study in Library and Information Science. My first degree (BLIS) was from the University of Kerala and I took my MLIS degree from the University of Mysore. For MLIS I stood first in the class and I was awarded the Ranganadan memorial gold medal of the University.

My career started as a working librarian in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Kerala. In 1968 I opted for Calicut University Service and continued there untill 1975. When I left Calicut University I was an Assistant Librarian.

My work in an independent capacity started when I got appointment as the Chief Librarian of the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI). From 1975 to 1991 I could work in the KFRI and a library of National importance could be developed from scraches.

From KFRI I went to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam as the Librarian. In Mahatma Gandhi University I got the opportunity to develop a library in modern lines adopting all possible IT options including online information retrieval. The work in the University was very challenging and at the same time highly rewarding. I was the first librarian in Kerala to be appointed in the UGC pay scale.

The work in the University Provided me opportunities to express my capability as a teacher. Initially I conducted orientation classes for the different categories of library users. Later, I was invited to engage classes on different topics like information sources and services, the internet, online information retrival and digital libraries. While in service in the MGU, I started the Department of Library and Information Science and I could hold responsibility of both the library and that of the Department.

During my career in KFRI and in the MGU, I got opportunity to visit a number of foreign countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Phillipines and China for training on modern aspects of the library proffession.

In 1998 I retired from the University service. Even though, I retired from the University, I continued in the profession as a consultant by accepting several assignments in Universities, Colleges and Research Institutions. I am also working as a guest facuality of the Kerala University. The details of my activities can be understood from my curriculum vitae.
